At the time of the visit, no water was flowing, and the collection structure showed signs of damage and poor maintenance, including cracks, stagnant water and accumulated debris. Because of these failures, many residents relied on an unprotected natural spring exposed to contamination from runoff, vegetation and animals. Community members reported that women and children often spend long hours collecting water whenever the piped system fails. This affects school attendance, household responsibilities and income-generating activities, while continued use of unsafe water increases the risk of diseases such as cholera, typhoid, diarrhoea and dysentery. The findings will guide future fundraising, partnerships and WASH interventions aimed at rehabilitating the piped system, repairing the damaged collection point and protecting the natural spring.
